How Much Does a Kitchen Remodel Cost in Westchester and the NYC Area?
What a kitchen remodel costs in Westchester, the Bronx, NYC and Fairfield County, and what makes the price go up or down.

Kitchen remodel prices in the New York metro area run higher than the national average because labor, permits and building access cost more here. The honest answer to “what will mine cost” is a range, and where you land depends on a handful of choices you control. This guide explains the ranges we see and what moves them.
Typical kitchen remodel ranges
These are planning ranges for Westchester, the Bronx, New York City and Fairfield County. They include materials and labor at the grade shown.
- Small kitchen, standard materials: about $30,000 to $45,000
- Medium kitchen: about $45,000 to $65,000
- Large kitchen: about $60,000 to $85,000
- Custom, high end kitchen: about $85,000 to $150,000 or more

What changes the price the most
Cabinets
Cabinets are usually the biggest line in the budget. Stock cabinets cost the least, semi-custom cost more and give you more sizes and finishes, and fully custom cabinets cost the most. Read more in our guide to stock, semi-custom and custom cabinets.
Countertops
Laminate is the least expensive. Quartz sits in the middle. Natural stone and large slabs, such as a waterfall island, cost the most. See how countertop materials compare.
Layout changes
Keeping the sink, range and refrigerator where they are keeps the price down. Moving plumbing or gas lines adds cost, and removing a wall adds more, especially if the wall is load bearing.
Appliances
An appliance package can cost anywhere from a few thousand dollars to well over twenty thousand. Professional style ranges and built-in refrigerators are the main reasons.
What is behind the walls
Older homes can hide outdated wiring, old plumbing or uneven floors. We tell you about anything we find before extra work begins.
Where the money goes
In a typical remodel, cabinets and countertops take the largest share, followed by appliances, flooring and tile, then the trades that most people forget: demolition, plumbing, electrical and lighting. Permits, project management and cleanup add to that.
How to keep a kitchen remodel on budget
- Decide your budget range before you meet contractors, and share it.
- Keep the layout if it already works.
- Spend on what you touch every day, such as cabinet quality and counters, and save on what you rarely notice.
- Choose materials early so nothing is delayed or substituted.
- Ask for an itemized written estimate and compare line by line, not just the total.
